- I have a Motorola Lifestyle that has worked just great for the past year. For the past two weeks the highest rate I can connect at
- is 24K, frequently the connection wants to be 19K but if I redial it'll ususally connect at the 24K rate. About the time I begin to
- experience this degraded operation, the phone company began working on the local pedestals (or whatever you call them...the
- cabinets that provide trunk to neighborhood feeds).
-
- To make a long story short , all I can get the phone company to say is that they only guarantee 2400 baud connections for
- modem operations, yes, they checked the connection and all is well, yes, they did wire the cabinets with some "newer"
- technology, and no, they ain't gonna do anything about it.
-
- I can't seem to get them to understand that I prefer the old connect rate to their new technology. So far, I've only talked with the
- tech that did the checking and his local manager. I'm hoping someone out there has had a similar experience and can tell me
- the magic words to use and on whom to use them that will result in a fix....I know they could fix it if they were so inclined.
-
- I guess I need to ask: is there a modem failure mode that could result in this problem...is there any way of checking short of
- substituting a new modem?
